This is our journal as we go through the 49 days (step-by-step) from decision to in-vitro fertilization. Scheduling, details, feelings, thoughts; all are recorded here. It is an amazing process, and we felt it vital to chronicle it.

Easy Weekend – Busy Week

I implied in my last post that things would get busier on Day Three. Well, we swallowed a few pills (anti-biotics and hormones) but nothing that was too trying.

We did read through the medical material, forms and legal stuff. We talked about our plan together, but still have questions to ask when we return for our appointment on Tuesday. Thus, we haven’t really come to any “final” decisions on some of the details.

However, there are a lot of questions and minors concerns. These range from costs to procedure-timing to what kind of underwear is allowed. Even a few moral thoughts to sort through, and of course there is more legality involved than I would have thought. For example, because there are fertilized embryos involved, we will be the legal guardians of cellular material.

Most of the weekend was talking, planning (and a little shopping). But really getting comfortable with our course of actions, which options we wanted, how to optimize success – and of course, the emotional factor, our certainty and expressing the importance of each other to each other. We really have to operate in tandem and as a team here because it is more overwhelming in reality than imagined in theory.

Plus, the fear of failure and how many retries we can do lingers over us. But also, the fear of too much success is there too. Remember, the doctor will implant TWO embryos in Kristina – and they both could latch on and grow.

Anyway, in the grand scheme of the process this was an easy weekend. Tuesday will be a big day: more doctor scheduling, an educational class, the trial-run, uterus measurements and even more tests will be run.

So, again – keep us in your prayers. Thanks!
