This is our journal as we go through the 49 days (step-by-step) from decision to in-vitro fertilization. Scheduling, details, feelings, thoughts; all are recorded here. It is an amazing process, and we felt it vital to chronicle it.

Can't Believe It's 27 Weeks

Nothing significantly different has occurred since the last post except perhaps Kristina "waddles" a little more. I tried simulating her walk, but she just laughed at me because I can't arch my back and balance myself without bending my knees. My imitation looks more like a fiddler crab singing "I'm a Little Tea Pot." She's much better at being pregnant than I am.

While I say there has been nothing significant, I can't ignore that Kristina continues to become more and more exhausted after working full days. Working all day may not be something she can do for much longer. Also, she can't lift as much and her belly bumps things more. She forgets she can't squeeze through the same places as could in her non-pregnant state.

That said, Kristina looks gorgeous. She's put on the appropriate amount of weight only for the twins and this point of gestation. If anything, she might be a tiny bit light, but it's all in the proper range. She's healthy. The boys are healthy. It's just tough carrying twins.

So...twenty seven weeks...that leaves only eight more until the average delivery date for a mother carrying two at one time. Not very long until Grayson and Bennett will be here.

This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (about the size of a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.
