This is our journal as we go through the 49 days (step-by-step) from decision to in-vitro fertilization. Scheduling, details, feelings, thoughts; all are recorded here. It is an amazing process, and we felt it vital to chronicle it.

Half The Way There

So tomorrow marks 19 weeks. This makes it officially the half-way milestone as the OB/GYN has stated she does not plan for Kristina to carry the boys beyond the 38th week.

One of the wonderful new events is being able to physically interact with the babies. They can now be felt moving when I place my hands on her belly. Grayson and Bennett both have distinct locations and already have subtly different responses to the heat from my touch through Kristina's skin. I kiss them through her belly and am starting to talk to them.

A funny thought occurred while I was feeling the babies last night. I can definitely recognize the difference from Kristina and each child when touching her lower abdomen. The round-shaped hardness is the baby, while her belly is much softer. But I had to chuckle as I stopped a realize that what felt like a newborn's head is actually their entire tiny bodies.

As routine, here is the development update from BabyCenter.com:

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of an heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.
